FILM CONCEPT DESIGN
Directed by Erin Cummins and written by Ben Szemerenyi, set in 2015 this short film tells the story of a young girl Abigail (15) whose little sister Lucy (10) goes missing. Abigail blames her self for the disappearance and a year later continues her search. She soon finds out that the case has been closed and must face her grief alongside her single mother.
The biggest and most character-filled space of this film is the young girls' bedroom. I wanted it to reflect Abigail's unwillingness to give up on her sister. She continues living as if her sister will return and so refuses to organize Lucy's side of the room. It still has her backpack and toys lying untouched. Posters slowly falling down the walls. It lays haunting, full of Lucy's ghost. Below are some quotes from my research about child grief, as well as research images.
