Maquette/Scale Model for scenography by Roel Van Berckelaer at International Theatre Amsterdam:
During my internship at the International Theatre of Amsterdam, I assisted in building this model designed by Roel Van Berckelaer. The Wetten premiered in March 2024 and will run again from 22nd August to 1st of September 2024. For photos and more information about the show please visit the website and Instagram post.
The main challenge was finding a material that in scale would look like draped and hanging canvas fabric. It also had to be sturdy enough to hang in the air and hold the set/prop pieces (see last model photo). I experimented with paper, tissues, and others but eventually settled on dryer sheets which I spray-painted multiple times. Once dry, they stiffened and became easily malleable. This was useful since we could add weights to them and they would keep their shape, as you can see around the edges of the circular stage.
