Story: The biblical Jephthah’s daughter, unknowingly sacrificed by her father in exchange for a military win, bargains for two months of freedom with her friends in the woods. There they celebrate her life all while discovering who they are in the process and how society's expectations have shaped them. This is a story told by an entirely female-identifying and non-binary cast and crew.
Description: This student show was performed in October 2021. Since the story is about self-discovery and identity, I strove to create an environment that reflects the characters' mental states. I used intense colors and varying brightness to reflect their inner turmoil and expression. Additionally, from time to time the lights would flicker along with the dancers, casting multiple shadows as they moved through the space.
